Near & Far
Travel | USA | 35mm | 2014 On the one hand, the similarity between Britain and America was uncanny, in the most obvious sense, sharing a language. However, a great distance also exists between the two nations in terms of the landscapes and attitudes and mindsets of people. And so, this photobook was inspired by the idea of near and far and aims to capture that feeling of confusion between similarity and difference, captured through the eyes of a first time visitor, captured exclusively on 35mm film. Every single photograph was taken on a Pentax ME Super with a 50mm f/1.7 lens. No colour editing or retouching has been done to any of the images, only repositioning and slight exposure adjustments. I wanted to keep the images as true to film as possible, eschewing the post processing too commonly used to hide behind in digital photography.
